Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) has been working for
progressive harmonization and unification of the Law of International Trade particularly
in the areas on Dispute Resolution and International Sale of Goods. India has
adopted the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and enacted
the Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996. With
a view to discuss recent changes proposed by UNCITRAL, Indian Council of Arbitration
(ICA) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) are
organizing a Conference on "International Commercial Arbitration &
Sale of Goods: UNCITRAL Perspective" on Saturday, the 18th October, 2008
at 3.30 p.m. at the Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi. Hon'ble Mr. Justice
Ajit Prakash Shah, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi, has very kindly agreed
to inaugurate the Conference. Mr. T K Vishvanathan, Secertary Ministry of Law
& Justice will deliver the keynote address. The
Conference will be followed by High-Tea. The
Conference amongst others will be addressed by Mr. Eric Bergsten, Former Secretary,
UNCITRAL & Chief, U N International Trade Law Branch and Mr. Luca G. Castellani,
Legal Officer/Juriste, UNCITRAL, Mr. P C Markanda, Vice President, ICA, Mr. A
K Ganguli, Mr. S K Dholakia, Mr. Jagdeep Dhankar, Sr. Advocates and other distinguished
legal and arbitration experts. The Conference
will discuss the following subjects: - New
Developments in the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration
and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules

Strengthening India's position in the global economy through Trade Law reform:
the case for the adoption of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the
International Sale of Goods
This
Conference will develop into a unique forum for animated exchange between practitioners
in interactive modules led by eminent discussion leaders with vast experience
in International Commercial Arbitration and Trade Law. We
